Financially-stricken Hercules Offshore confirmed it had sold its Hercules 267 jack-up rig for $3.16million.
The deal with an undisclosed buyer comes after the firm was forced to file for bankruptcy twice in one year.
It also shed 60 permanent posts from its Houston headquarters.
Earlier this year, Maersk snapped up the Hercules Highlander.
The North Sea operator said it was an opportunity it couldn’t let pass by.
The $190million deal included renaming the high pressure, high temperature jack-up rig Maersk Highlander.
It will be deployed to Maersk’s flagship North Sea Culzean field.
he high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) field is in the UK Central North Sea is expected to produce enough gas to meet 5% of total UK demand at peak production in 2020/21. Culzean is also the largest gas field sanctioned since East Brae in 1990.
