The number of rigs operating in the US went up this week, the latest Baker Hughes rig count shows.
US rigs were up 12 from the previous week to 768, with oil rigs up eight to 617, gas rigs up five to 151, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at one, according to the rig count, which acts as a barometer for the drilling industry.
Year-on-year the US rig count was up 288 from last year’s 480, with oil rigs up 231, gas rigs up 57, and miscellaneous rigs flat at zero.
The US offshore rig count is 20, two more than in the previous week, but down seven year-on-year.
Canada’s rig count came in at 315 – down by 20 week-on-week, but 217 ahead of last years’ figure.
