A north-east family caught up in the floods in Houston have decided to volunteer in a bid to help others.
Colin McCrae, along with his wife Cassandra and two children Jypsy,11, and Charlee, 6, planned to head down to a convention centre in the city centre of Houston.
Thousands of people in the Texan state have been misplaced as a result of the devastating floods which have claimed the lives of 20 people.
Large halls, convention centres and stadiums have been used to house people after they were rescued from their homes.
Colin, 34, and his family struggled to find food during the torrential rain, however they were able to dodge the worst of the flooding.
Colin, originally from Cults, said: “The weather has started to clear up now so we have decided to go and volunteer to help some of the people who have been the worst
affected.
“We were lucky in that we didn’t have water in our house, but others haven’t been so lucky.
“We have decided to take the kids down to give them a bit of perspective as they have moaned about some small things.”
With the weather clearing up it is predicted the worst of the flooding is over for the people of Houston, however Colin said everyone is still on edge.
