Italy’s Eni and Scottish firm Cairn Energy have reported disappointment offshore Mexico after an exploration well came up dry.
Cairn has a 30% interest in the Ehecatl-1 well, located 40miles offshore in Block 7 in the Sureste Basin.
It was drilled by the Valaris 8505 rig aimed at proving oil and gas in the Lower Miocene, but none were found and it has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
Cairn said it was now collecting data to better understand the block and make a second well decision.
The well reached a total depth of 4,451 metres.
