US drilling rigs fell by the steepest amount since September, falling by 28 last week.
According the the Baker Hughes report, the current total of 709 is a 63% drop.
More than 1,200 rigs have been sidelined in the wake of the oil price decline.
Texas pulled nine rigs from service – the state’s most prominent drop since April.
A total of 15 were benched from the Permian Basin in West Texas last week.
