Indonesian independent Medco Energi (IDX:MEDC) operator of South Natuna Sea Block B offshore Indonesia, has started shooting 270 square km of 3D seismic at the Kaci field starting on 29 September, according to upstream regulator SKK Migas.
The seismic acquisition, carried out by Mahakarya Geo Survey, is expected to take 40 days to finish. The 3D seismic will help Medco choose the next well location following the Kaci-2 discovery in 2020, as currently the seismic data on the Kaci structure is only available in 2D.
The Kaci-2 exploration well flowed high-quality dry gas of 13 million cubic feet per day during testing.
Indonesian-listed Medco Energi is accelerating development of its offshore Block B in the Natuna Sea in Indonesia.
The Indonesian player said in April that it is preparing to develop its Belida and Hiu fields in the block, which it acquired from ConocoPhillips, Chevron and Inpex in 2016. It holds a 40% operating interest alongside Indonesian partners.
Block B holds several producing fields including Belanak, Belida, North Belut, Kerisi and Hang Tuah. Medco has also recently made a series of exploration discoveries in the area while continuing to develop other reserves in Block B.
The South Natuna Sea Block B (SNSBB) is a large and fragmented PSC that covers a number of oil and gas fields in the Natuna Sea and was formerly operated by ConocoPhillips. Oil has been produced since 1979, and peaked in the mid-1990s. Several fields have reached the end of their productive lives and have been now shut-in.
