After a journey of nearly 6000km, the vessel for Shell’s Prelude floating LNG project has arrived off the northern coast of Australia.
The Prelude will produce liquefied natural gas for the next 25 years.
The ship left the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, in June and made a 5,800 kilometre journey to Australia, where it will extract and liquefy natural gas.
It is expected to produce 3.6million tonnes of LNG per year from the Prelude and Concerto gas fields, in the Browse Basin, off the north-west coast of Australia.
The floating facility will chill natural gas produced at the field to –162°C, shrinking its volume by 600 times so it can be shipped to customers in other parts of the world.
