Industry body Decom North Sea (DNS) has appointed Tom Leeson as its interim chief executive with immediate effect.
Mr Leeson has worked in the oil industry for 30 years and has a strong track record in the decommissioning sector.
Most recently, he was principal consultant for Aberdeen-based Reverse Engineering Services.
He previously held the role of well abandonment global business manager at US oil service firm Halliburton.
Mr Leeson’s relationship with DNS dates back to 2011, when he took on the role of board director.
He replaces Roger Esson, who has been appointed decommissioning solution centre manager at the Oil and Gas Technology Centre.
Mr Leeson said: “I am delighted to have been appointed interim CEO of Decom North Sea. The challenges facing the sector are very well known to me and I will be working directly with our strategic partners as we continue to play a vital part in solution development, cross-sector learning and in building supply chain capability.
“I look forward to meeting our members at next week’s Offshore Decommissioning Conference and during the coming months, as we lead the development of efficient and effective decommissioning within the context of maximising economic recovery in the North Sea.”
DNS chairman Nigel Lees said: “Tom provides a depth of industry-wide – and sector-specific – knowledge and experience, which will ensure Decom North Sea continues to connect supply chain capability with opportunity.
