Fledgling decommissioning firm Well-Safe Solutions has said that its onshore marine base will be located in the Port of Dundee.
Well-Safe, formed in July, will have access to two acres of quayside facilities along with 40,000sq ft of covered space for housing marine assets.
The Aberdeen-headquartered business will also be able to use the port’s deep water quaysides, heavy-lift capabilities and warehouse space.
Well-Safe chief executive Phil Milton, who is from Dundee, said: “This marine support base in Dundee will play a crucial role in supporting our rapidly growing business.
“We have chosen the Port of Dundee because of the critical mass of decommissioning companies already based here and the facilities on offer.
“We are looking forward to fostering a strong partnership with Forth Ports.
“Personally, I’m very pleased to be able to bring business to the community in which I started out. Dundee continues its ongoing development, growing its economy and introducing new businesses with a proactive, refreshing, can-do approach.”
A number of initiatives aimed at making Dundee a major decommissioning hub are under way.
In August, Norwegian industrial giant AF Gruppen Offshore Decom and local industry body Dundeecom agreed to set up a major new rig recycling facility at the city’s docks.
And dock-owner Forth Ports is nearing the end of a £10million redevelopment project to equip the Prince Charles Wharf to handle heavy loads.
