Taqa has picked Archer rig to carry out a 21-well plug and abandonment campaign in the northern sector of the UK North Sea.
The Archer Topaz unit is expected to move to the Cormorant Alpha platform in the second half of next year.
Archer chief executive Dag Skindlo said: “We are delighted with the award of this contract which secures the rig work until late 2023.”
But first, Archer’s engineering division will remove the platform’s derrick equipment set.
Bill Muir, area manager engineering, Archer UK, said: “We are very pleased with the award of this contract.
“The combination of significant experience in facilities brownfield engineering combined with our integrated rope access and construction teams will allow Archer to execute the project without use of heavy lift vessel.”
The contract awards provided some much needed good news for Archer, which has been forced to lay off crews due to clients’ decisions to down-man and scale back drilling activities due to the Covid-19 outbreak and oil price drop.
