The Pioneering Spirit vessel has removed the DP3 gas production topsides from Spirit Energy’s Morecambe Bay development in the East Irish Sea.
It will soon join its sister platform, DP4, which was removed and transported to Scotland in April.
The two installations will be dismantled by Scottish decommissioning firm CessCon at Energy Park Fife (EPF), Methil.
Pioneering Spirit, owned by Allseas, will return to Morecambe Bay to remove the DP3 and DP4 supporting jackets in 2023.
Operational since 2016, the DP3 and DP4 topsides removals for Spirit Energy is the vessel’s first heavy lift assignment outside the North Sea.
Pioneering Spirit has already installed and removed over 200,000 tonnes of platform weight, moving the work onshore where it is safer and quicker.
DP4 was initially taken to the Port of Rosyth, rather than going straight to (EPF), a decision Allseas attributed to “other project commitments and operational efficiencies”.
Spirit Energy said it would be more efficient to load both platforms onto the quay during a “single operational window”.
DP4 was eventually towed to EPF from Rosyth on June 3.
