Total Norge’s wildcat failed to yield a return.
The firm drilled the well six kilometres northeast of the Garantiana oil discovery.
The well was targeting petroleum in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks in the Cook formation, but only encountered 96 metres of aquiferous sandstone. It will now be plugged and abandoned.
The wildcat was the fifth exploration well to be drilled under exploration licence 554, which was awarded in 2010.
The well was drilled to a depth of 4084 metres below the sea surface before it was terminated in the Lower Jurassic Burton Formation.
