Irish oil explorer Providence Resources said today that Gardline’s M/V Kommandor survey vessel was en route to the Newgrange prospect, where it will conduct a seismic data shoot.
Providence, which owns 80% of the licence, said the data would be used in its application for an exploration well permit.
The Dublin-headquartered company also said it was in talks over a farm-out of the prospect, which lies 260 kilometres south-west of Ireland.
The other Newgrange partner is Sosina Exploration, with a 20% stake.
Providence technical director John O’Sullivan said: “We are pleased to confirm the commencement of the Newgrange site survey operations some 2 months ahead of schedule.
“In tandem with these operations, we continue to liaise with interested potential co-venture partners whilst also constantly monitoring possible rigs of opportunity which may become available for this exciting exploration venture.”
