Maersk Drilling has secured a short-term charter contract with Total for a third drillship which was delivered from a shipyard in South Korea..
The Maersk Venturer will commence the one well programme offshore in Malaysia for 45 days, beginning in December.
The drillship is the third in a series of four ultra deepwater drillships, The deal is thought to be worth $17million.
Claus V. Hemmingsen, chief executive officer at Maersk Drilling, said: “We are happy to get the Maersk Venturer out working, especially with the short term challenges in the floater market, and we remain confident that we can secure another good contract for the drillship, when this short term contracts ends.”
The last in the fleet of four drillships was named last month at a ceremony in South Korea.
Growing the business activities in the ultra-deepwater market is part of Maersk Drilling’s strategy to deliver on the financial ambition of a $1billion profit in 2018.
