An investigation is underway after a fire broke out aboard the Hibernia platform offshore Canada earlier this week.
The Canadian safety authority, Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOP) said the incident involved a flame which originated from the insulation of a high pressure cleaning unit on the platform.
The CNOLP said: “On May 9th at approximately 7.30am, two workers observed the flame and immediately shut down the high pressure cleaning unit. A portable extinguisher was used to quickly extinguish the flame.”
The safety body said there were no injuries but the incident is being investigated.
The Hibernia oil field is in the North Atlantic Ocean and is 315 kilometres from Newfoundland.
