Statoil’s chief executive Eldar Saetre has insisted it is safe to work offshore after a number of incidents in recent weeks.
It comes as the company recorded an increase in serious incidents offshore from 0.5 last year to 0.8 this year.
The boss made the comments as the firm announced it had widened its losses amid the challenging oil and gas prices.
He said there had been “too many” incidents in the third quarter.
The Statoil boss said it is “safe to work offshore” but added “we can always do better”.
There have been six incidents in the past month and earlier this week bosses were called into a meeting with the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) amid concerns about the number if incidents.
