A UK safety watchdog has flagged up shortcomings on Marathon Oil’s Brae Alpha platform in the North Sea.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said Marathon had not made “appropriate arrangements” for the effective monitoring of “protective measures”.
Following an inspection in November, HSE found that the permit to work system audits on Brae Alpha did not ensure measures for preventing gas leaks were in place.
And in a separate improvement notice, the watchdog said Marathon could not demonstrate that suitable risk assessments had been carried out regarding maintenance deferrals.
A spokesman for Marathon said: “Marathon Oil is cooperating fully with the HSE, and is taking the necessary steps to comply with improvement notices issued in December for the Brae Alpha platform.
“The safety and wellbeing of personnel on our installations is Marathon Oil’s top priority.”
The Brae Alpha is located about 155 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
A gas leak on the Brae Alpha in December 2015 was categorised as “major” by HSE.
