Oil and gas drilling firms have enjoyed one of the safest years on record, representatives of the sector heard last night.
The North Sea chapter of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) held its annual safety awards ceremony in Aberdeen.
Jon Richards, the chapter’s chairman, told around 400 IADC members at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre that the offshore industry worldwide had made significant health, safety and environment improvements in 2011.
“We can all agree there is more progress to be made,” he said, adding: “Our strive for continual improvement is key to the long-term viability of our industry.”
Awards were presented recognising the safety achievements of individuals, companies and their rigs.
