North-east firm Survival Craft Inspectorate (SCI) said it would open a base in the Middle East as part of international expansion plans.
The marine-safety specialist has established links with IRM Offshore Services, which will lead to the Qatar-based company offering lifesaving equipment to the country’s oil and gas industry.
SCI already has operations in the UK, US, Canada, Norway, Australia and the Far East. Managing director Angus Campbell said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to introduce our products and services to the Middle East market, and will endeavour to deliver the standards of performance that have underpinned our growth in other parts of the world in recent years.”
North-east firm Marine MTS says it has won a contract with Total after helping the operator to tackle the gas leak on the Elgin platform.
Marine MTS, which specialises in technology and security services for the maritime sector, said it had signed a £150,000 deal with the French company after providing data-communication support during the incident.
The Portlethen-based business said the technology, called Loc8, had now been taken up by Total for all its North Sea assets.
The company, which employs nine people, said after developing the software specifically for Total it would also now be available to the wider market.
