The UK Government has failed to make a convincing case to justify closing two maritime rescue co-ordination centres in Scotland, according to a group of MPs.
Westminster’s Scottish affairs committee said it was “very worried” about the impact of shutting Forth and Clyde coastguard stations and ministers must explain how they will ensure the “same high standard of service is maintained, with fewer resources”.
In a report published today, members said they were “deeply concerned” about the loss of local knowledge and coastguard staff claims they were excluded from a consultation on the future of the coastguard service.
