Offshore staff are set to receive training in dealing with suicide threats, hostage situations and protesters.
A new training course, launched in Aberdeen, will be held next month to provide training for offshore personnel who find themselves in high risk situations.
The course, run by Aberdeen-based Altor Risk Group, looks at a number of potentially dangerous situations where support from authorities or emergency services may be delayed.
“We recognise that dealing with any highly pressurised situation requires a specialist skill set,” said Altor’s UK business unit leader Matthew Wardner.
“When incidents happen offshore this is further magnified, given the necessary support from the emergency services may be hampered.
“When we heard that EPOL were exploring the possibility of training offshore personnel to deal with people in crisis on their installations and with the real life experience our staff have this was an obvious subject to pursue and therefore developed the offshore crisis intervention skills course for this purpose.”
The three-day course will feature former police officers and armed forces personnel providing instruction in how to stop risky situations from escalating.
