Lloyd’s Register has been awarded a supply chain excellence award for its blow-out preventer (BOP) risk model programme.
The Energy Industries Council’s award for supply chain excellence 2013 awards a new product, service, process or engineering solution which has maximised customer satisfaction.
The BOP risk model programme was developed in a joint industry project with drilling operators, BOP equipment manufacturers and US regulators.
It allows operators to assess the risk of their BOP against component failure, and better ascertain whether or not they need to pull the BOP to the surface for inspection and repair.
“Lloyd’s Register’s BOP risk model shows an innovative, well thought-out and executed solution to a high profile industry challenge and I am delighted that the entry was chosen as the winner of this year’s award,” said EIC southern region manager Charlotte Hust.
Lloyd’s Register global business development manager Meindert Strum said: “Winning this award is recognition of Lloyd’s Register’s innovation and technical excellence in the energy industry, and in particular the progress we are making on providing solutions that help to achieve subsea drilling operations.
“Our work in this area is a great example of how synergies between regulators, operators, equipment suppliers and contractors can lead to innovative products which make the industry more reliable, better performing and safer.”
