Energy industry safety representatives are being given the chance to attend a major new conference for free after later this year.
A total of 40 free spaces have been made available for the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ conference, which looks at the human risk factors in the oil and gas industry.
Les Linklater, team leader with Step Change in Safety, urged industry safety representatives to take advantage of the free places for the event on March 4.
“This is a great opportunity for workforce engagement,” he said.
“These free places are a result of Step Change in Safety’s involvement with the conference. Risk is something our industry has to confront every day.
“I would encourage our safety leaders to take advantage of these free places, join the discussion and have their voice, and the voices of the people they represent, heard.
Mr Linklater is among the speakers at the event, which will feature a keynote address from Piper Alpha disaster inquiry leader Lord Cullen of Whitekirk.
Also speaking at the AECC conference will be David Pritchard, co-chair of the Presidential Commission for the Deep Water Horizon Steering Group and Lillian Espinoza-Gala of Berkeley University’s Centre for Catastrophic Risk Management.
“Our perceptions of risk are vital to our ability to work and operate safely and in many ways those perceptions can be entirely personal,” said Mr Linklater.
“Through conferences like this we’re able to understand how we can better identify and address the various risks in our industry. And our workforce has vital role to play in that.”
Registration for the free spaces can be found on Step Change in Safety’s website.
