A Chevron worker remains unaccounted for this morning after a major gas well fire in Pennsylvania.
Another man was taken to hospital after the blast, which took place yesterday at the company’s drilling site in Dunkard Township, in the south west area of the state.
The company confirmed this morning that they had still to find the missing worker, who was employed by a contractor working on the site.
Police established a half-mile exclusion zone around the rural site, which sits close to the border with West Virginia, and said it could be days before access to the site could be achieved due to the intensity of the fire.
“At the time of the incident, preparations were being made to run tubing, which is often done prior to bringing wells into production,” a Chevron spokesman said.
“There is currently an uncontrolled release and fire at the 7H well. We do not yet know the cause of the incident.
“Chevron has mobilized representatives from Wild Well Control, who are currently on-site and working with Chevron to develop plans to safely address the situation.
“One employee of a contractor is currently unaccounted for and another contractor employee was taken to the hospital for injuries and has since been released. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these individuals.”
