A blaze near a pipeline owned by Mexican state oil company Pemex left seven people injured after emergency services were called.
An emergency services coordinator for the Mexican state of Tabasco made the announcement after it had widely been reported to local media that up to 30 people had been injured.
According to reports, the fire was controlled without the pipeline being affected, Pemex said on its Twitter account.
None of those who were injured had been Pemex employees.
The blaze is believed to have been started in an area used to store stolen fuel, near the town of Huimanguillo, in the southern state of Tabasco.
The oil company regularly has to deal with fires which have been started when its pipeline are tapped illegally.
Pemex has previously said former employees, drug cartels and business people have been involved in stealing its fuel and it has taken a number of measures to cut down on costly thefts.
