A north-east union chief has warned members to be aware of online scams as the downturn in North Sea oil and gas takes hold.
Unite regional officer Tommy Campbell said: “We are warning our members to be extra vigilant of these scams which prey on the fear and uncertainty across the North Sea because of the oil price crisis.
“Over 70,000 jobs across the UK oil and gas sector have now gone since the turn of 2015 and the recent raft of profit warnings and decommissioning projections suggest we are far from out of the woods.
“The environment could get even more difficult so the industry must clamp down as best it can on exploitative scams.”
