Maersk Oil’s wellhead platform has begun its journey from its construction yard in Vlissingen to the Culzean project in the North Sea.
The oil and gas company revealed first steel had been cut for the project earlier this month with its chief exec also revealing the company could consider Shell North Sea assets up for grabs.
The journey is expected to take between two to three days and it will be joined at Culzean’s field location by the wellhead deck constructed in Hartlepool.
The drilling of the first of Culzean’s six production wells is expected later this year, with first gas being prepared for 2019.
At peak production, it’s expected that the field can meet around 5% of UK gas demand.
