Oil major BP’s Glen Lyon FPSO arrives in Haugesund today as it under goes its final preparations before heading to the UKCS.
At 270 metres in length and with a width of 52 metres, it will be the largest ever FPSO to dock at Aibel’s yard.
The company won the contract to work on various marine operations and fabrication activities, as well as testing of the mechanical winch, before it heads to the Schiehallion field.
Bjørn Tollefsen, executive vice president of the yard, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Glen Lyon to Haugesund.
“The FPSO will arrive at the same time as we are stepping up the activity in the Johan Sverdrup project. The scene is set for an exciting spring with a high activity level at the yard.”
The vessel is expected to stay in Haugesund for the next two months and during its stay a considerable amount of yard employees are expected to be involved with the assignment.
Preparations ahead of the project have been gearing up since Summer last year.
