The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has mobilised its emergency response team after a helicopter crash near to Bergen.
The safety body said it had mobilised its emergency response centre at about 12.30 today following the incident.
A spokesman for the authority said it would be following the incident “closely” although it does not have direct responsibility for aviation.
In a statement the PSA said: “Because of its relationship with the industry and its area of responsibility, the PSA is following the accident closely from its emergency response centre.
“Statoil is the operator of Gullfaks B, and the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority is the agency responsible for helicopter traffic to and from offshore installations in Norway.
“Search and rescue work is being led by the joint rescue coordination centre (JRCC) for southern Norway.”
