Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg said her country was “bereaved with grief” after the deaths of 13 workers in a North Sea helicopter crash.
The politician took to her own personal blog to write for the first time in detail about the events which she described as a “dark day” for Norway.
She said the incident, which killed 11 workers and two crew, showed “how suddenly everything can change”.
Solberg said:”For many families this weekend has been quite different than they imagined.
“What was supposed to be an everyday commute from work in the North Sea, ended in tragedy.”
She said there was so “much to thank” for the men and women who had worked in the industry over the past 50 years on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
“They have been tested in many ways, but they have always shown indomitable courage”, she added.
Solberg said for many North Sea workers there had been “many nights” away from loved ones with “high seas and stormy, rough shifts”.
The Norwegian Prime Minister said “unity” was now important as investigations continue into the cause of Friday’s crash.
