The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Statoil a drilling permit for more North Sea wildcat wells.
Statoil will drill two wildcats at 30/11-14 and 30/11-14 B from the Songa Delta drilling facility in production licence 035.
An appraisal well at 30/11-14 A will be drilled if a discovery is made.
Statoil is the operator and holds joint ownership with Det Norske.
Production licence 035 was awarded in licensing round 2-A on 14 November 1969. These are the 12th, 13th, and possibly the 14th exploration wells to be drilled within the licence area.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate also confirmed another Statoil wildcat has led to a North Sea oil discovery.
The Norwegian operator was drilling two wildcats two kilometres south of the Askja Øst discovery, and about 35 km southwest of the Oseberg Sør facility in the North Sea.
