Norwegian operator Statoil plans to replace a cable system on its Gullfaks field after leak was discovered after just one month in use.
The company started an investigation last year after a leakage of toxic chemicals was discovered on the seabed.
Statoil had established a technical expert group to find out where the leak occurred with two compressors being brought onshore and production paused when the leak was discovered.
Gullfaks is the world’s first seabed wet gas compressors, a technology that company has been developing since 2007.
A spokesman for Statoil said it would not be able to give any further information until the cable is further examined as to what caused it.
He added the company was looking “very seriously” at what had happened in order to prevent further similar incidents.
The Gullfaks development, located in the North Sea, northwest of Bergen, consists of three platforms.
