Statoil said it has made a minor gas discovery in the North Sea after drilling a wildcat well.
The company said it will now plug and abandon well 30/11-13 which was about 27kilometres south of the Oseberg South facility.
The primary estimation of the size of the discovery was between one and three million standard cubic metres of recoverable oil.
The discovery is to be included in the evaluation of a new field development along with previous discoveries in the area.
The primary target for the well was to prove petroleum in the Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks.
Statoil said the well encountered gas columns at two levels in the top part of the Tarbert formation.
