The Ivar Aasen living quarters module is en-route to the North Sea after Apply Leirvik completed the project build.
The module weights 2,300 tons and is 40 meters tall. It was loaded on a barge in the Stord harbour and will later be lifted into place in the North Sea.
The seven-story module is comprised of 70 single cabins, recreation areas, offices, hospital, control rooms and helicopter deck – all it takes to operate a small community offshore at Utsirahøyden. It also holds two lifeboats and a man-overboard boat. In total it measurs 3,300 sq m.
Karl Johnny Hersvik, chief executive for Det norsk, said: “We are very pleased with the project and the work Apply Lervik has performed. The project is completed within time and budget, but above all, we are very happy with the excellent HSE standards shown. Several hundred men have worked without any lost-time injuries during the project since contract award took place in September 2013.”
