Engie said it will reduce its headcount by around 40 positions from its operations in Norway.
The company said the move is being taken as management at headquarters in Paris proposed to reorganise the firm.
Engie has premises both in Stavanger and in Floro with 277 roles employees in total, including 150 in Stavanger.
Last month, it was revealed Engie had been given the go-ahead by Norwegian authorities to drill a wildcat well in the North Sea.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate granted the French energy firm a drilling permit for well 36/7-4, approximately 55km southwest of Florø and about 10km northwest of the Gjøa field.
