Statoil said it has been given consent to use the Songa Enabler for drilling three wells at Snohvit.
The Norwegian operator was given approval from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for the gas field in the Barents Sea.
Snohvit has been developed using a subsea production facility and the gas is transported through a 143-kilometre-long pipeline to Melkoya off Hammerfest.
Statoil will use the Songa Enabler to drill three wells on the field.
Two of these are production wells while the third will be reinjecting CO2.
Drilling was scheduled to begin last month and will last for 220 days in total.
