Norway’s offshore safety body has ordered Italian energy firm Eni to submit a report on a blackout on a vessel in the Barents Sea.
Eni’s Norwegian division said the Goliat floating production, storage and off-loading unit lost all power on Friday, leading to a production shutdown.
Eni sent all non-essential staff members to shore by helicopter and notified the relevant authorities.
Power returned a few hours later, at which point the evacuation was stopped, and the situation “normalised”, the company said in an online statement.
But Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority said today that Goliat suffered a similar incident in May.
The watchdog has given Eni until September 5 to draw up and present a plan for the prevention of future power outages.
Production from the Goliat field only started in March.
