Total has come up dry at a well close to the Ekofisk field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The company is operator of production license 618 where it has been in the process of completing the drilling wildcat well 1/5-5.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said the well encountered 80 metres thick sandstone in the Ula formation with moderate to poor reservoir quality.
The well has been classed as dry.
It is the first exploration well in production license 618.
The license was awarded in APA 2011.
