Eni is said to be planning to drill a new exploration well southwest of the Goliat field in the Barents Sea.
According to reports, the plan is to examine the Goliat Eye prospect using the rig Scarabeo 8.
The Italian oil and gas firm has written to the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for the drilling application.
It comes in the same month Eni was told the Goliat field would remain shut down until new measures are implemented following a number of disruptions.
The body said after a meeting with Eni’s management, it had been concluded that management and workers would also need to be able to agree the platform could be operated practically.
The project has remained shut in since a power outage in August.
