Statoil has been given the green-light to drill four survey wells at Johan Sverdrup in the North Sea.
The company was given the go-ahead by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA).
The field has been developed using four fixed facilities connected by bridges.
Production from the field is expected to begin in late 2019.
The PSA said the four survey wells will be drilled in order to obtain information about the reservoir conditions in the field.
The consent has been given in the form of two decisions, one for one of the wells and one for the other three.
Drilling is expected from next month and will last around four months.
Water depth in the area is 110-120 metres.
The wells will be drilled using the Deepsea Atlantic, a semi-sumbersible drilling facility.
The facility is operated by the Odfjell Drilling AS.
