Subsea cable firm JDR has revealed plans to open a support centre in Newcastle to meet demand from clients.
JDR, which has an office in Aberdeen, said it chose Newcastle because of its proximity to the North Sea and its Hartlepool facility.
The new base, which is expect to open in the third quarter of 2017, will contain a workshop, a warehouse and offices.
It will house up to 50 staff members and will be JDR’s central base for its UK and European service operations.
JDR chief financial officer Ivan Coyard said: “We are very excited to announce this new European service centre. We expect our service contracts to increase significantly as we continue to build on our recent successes, delivering cables and umbilicals globally to the offshore energy industry.
“Through this dedicated facility, we will set a new standard in service support, with project management, procurement and mobilisation of equipment and personnel providing a one-stop shop. This will ensure product integrity and ultimately maximise operational uptime for clients.”
