Statoil said it plans to intensify its efforts to extend the life of the Norne field.
The company has already done one life extension for the Norne ship until 2021, and the ongoing work now is about another 10 years of production.
Chief investigating officer Ola Anders Skauby said the plan is to start the application process next year.
Studies of the field’s condition has shown the hull is robust and can be extended until 2036 without docking.
Skauby said although Norne is considered a mature field after 19 years in operation, the firm still sees exploration potential in the area.
Earlier today Statoil revealed it had widened losses in its third quarter results.
The number of serious safety incidents has also risen from 0.5 to 0.8%.
