Lundin Norway has been given consent by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea.
The company is the operator for production licence 492, which comprises blocks 7120/1 and 7120/2.
The prospect, named Ghota, is around 185kilometres north-west of Hammerfest.
Drilling is scheduled to begin this month and last around 73 dats.
There will also be a potential well test.
The PSA said the well is to be drilled using the Leiv Eiriksson mobile drilling facility which is owned and operated by Ocean Rig.
