An investigation has been launched after a fire on the Deepsea Atlantic rig while it was working on the Johan Sverdrup field.
According to reports, the incident happened earlier this month, on January 4th.
It was initially extinguished but flared up again but the situation was brought under control around an hour later.
The chief inspection officer of Statoil, Santander Skauby, said the rig was not drilling production wells when the incident took place.
He said the case has been reported to the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) and will also be followed up by Statoil and Odfjell Drilling.
