The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has ordered Shell to up its game after the company fell behind on a number checks on its Clipper platform.
HSE said Shell had not inspected the installations pipeline isolation valves in more than three years.
The valves are supposed to be checked annually.
Shell had also fallen behind on inspections of valve shutdown systems, non-hazardous area ventilation and “rotating equipment”.
Clipper, which is normally manned, is located 41 mile off the Norfolk coast in the southern North Sea.
HSE handed Shell the improvement notice in December and has set the company a deadline of April 20 to comply.
A spokesperson for Shell UK said: “We can confirm that we were issued with an Improvement Notice on 20th December 2016 by the Health and Safety Executive in relation to our installation verification procedures on the Clipper platform in the Southern North Sea.
“There were no injuries as a result of this matter and we are currently working to address the requirements of this improvement notice.”
