Norway’s offshore oil industry watchdog has warned Statoil over safety systems on the Statfjord facilities in the North Sea.
The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) said the three Statfjord production platforms, which were installed between 1979 and 1985, had received consent to keep working beyond their original 30-year design lives.
PSA said it carried out inspections in late January to make sure Statoil was meeting the preconditions for receiving the extensions.
The regulator said it had found “non-conformities relating to benzene exposure and to the fire-fighting system for slug catchers for stacks”.
Improvement points were detected in connection with “barrier understanding and noise exposure”.
Statoil has until April 27 to explain how it will correct the issues.
A fire broke out on the Statfjord A platform in October last year, after which the PSA found a number of breaches of regulations.
