North Sea independent Chrysaor has agreed terms to become the third and biggest tenant in The Capitol office development in Union Street, Aberdeen.
Announcing its plan to take up more than 48,000sq ft of the new office complex yesterday, London-headquartered Chrysaor said the building would be the operations base for its UK offshore activities.
The lease covers more than of 65% of the whole property, the firm added.
Chrysaor is focused on the development and commercialisation of dormant oil and gas discoveries and incremental reserves.
At the end of January, it unveiled a £3billion deal for Shell’s interests in nine fields and a 10% stake in Schiehallion.
The company will spend the coming months fitting out its new Union Street offices, which will be home to around 200 staff.
Chief executive Phil Kirk said: “At the time of the (Shell) transaction, I promised to secure a prime property for Chrysaor’s North Sea operations.
“I am now delighted to confirm that we are proceeding with a landmark location with high quality office space for employees joining Chrysaor.
“Our move to The Capitol is a positive step for Union Street and the wider Aberdeen area.
“The increased footfall on Union Street will bring increased opportunities to businesses within the west end and strengthen regeneration within the area.”
The Capitol is a joint venture between Aberdeen-based Knight Property Group and M&G Real Estate. The joint letting agents are Savills, Ryden and AB Robb.
A spokeswoman for Knight Property Group was unable to confirm the new tenancy last night.
Professional services giant PwC was unveiled as the building’s first tenant last April, on the same day as the former theatre, cinema and nightclub’s official opening after a £30million transformation.
In February, the Press and Journal revealed one of Scotland’s biggest law firms, Maclay Murray and Spens, would move its Granite City team into 5,049sq ft of the building’s fourth floor during the second quarter of this year.
The building’s 1930s-style foyer gives access to 72,600sq ft of office accommodation over nine levels, which are all-column free to give tenants between 2,600 and 10,040sq ft of uninterrupted space to work with.
