Statoil has released footage of the first topside module for the North Sea Mariner field leaving a yard in South Korea.
The module left Daewoo Shipbuilding’s base earlier this week on board the Forte heavy transport vessel.
Its journey to the Mariner field east of Shetland will last about 40 days.
The remaining modules will be shipped out on four separate vessels in the coming weeks.
They will be installed in summer by the Saipem 7,000 heavy lift vessel.
Hook up and commissioning of the Mariner platform will last more than a year.
Statoil is targeting production start-up from Mariner in the second half of 2018.
Statoil Production UK managing director Hedda Felin said: “This is a very important step for us in the Mariner project. The sail away of our topside modules marks the beginning of an exciting period of activity for Statoil in the UK North Sea. Our team is focused on ensuring safe operations in this critical phase.”
