Siccar Point Energy (SPE) has booked a rig for an appraisal well west of Shetland.
SPE, which is led by former Centrica Energy upstream boss Jonathan Roger, said Seadrill’s West Hercules rig would drill and test the well on the Cambo discovery next year.
The contract, which was awarded to Seadrill subsidiary North Atlantic Drilling, commences in April 2018.
SPE is a joint venture between private equity firm Blue Water Energy and funds managed by Blackstone Energy Partners.
It has stakes in three of the largest UK assets by remaining reserves – Schiehallion, Mariner and Rosebank – as well as the Jade area.
It recently moved from temporary accommodation in Berry Street to new headquarters at H1 at Hill of Rubislaw
The fledgling company has about 30 employees but the workforce is expected to grow to 40 by the end of the year.
