Statoil has released footage of the progress being made on the world’s first floating windfarm.
The Hywind project is being assembled on the west coast of Norway ahead of it being towed into place on the Scottish Coast.
The turbine height from the sea is 175 metres, with another 78 metres hidden under water, giving the structures a total height of 253 meters.
It takes a 3,500 tonne floating substructure to hold each of these wind turbines steady – the equivalent weight of around 700 elephants.
The floating substructures are then ballasted with iron ore and water and chained to suction anchors in the seabed for heavy duty stabilisation.
